Alain Houde – Head of Post, Quebec Delegation in Los Angeles

Alain HoudeOn March 14th, 2011, Alain Houde took up his duties Québec Delegate in Los Angeles. He represents Québec in 13 western US states, including California, Arizona, Washington, and New Mexico.

A graduate of Montreal’s HEC School of Business (École des Hautes Études Commerciales), Mr. Houde has dedicated himself to Québec’s economic development since 1986. Upon joining the Government of Québec in 1993, he held a variety of managerial positions with the Department of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade (MDEIE) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ). In particular, he headed the MDEIE’s Asia-Pacific, Africa and Middle East Division, in addition to the investment promotion division and the Montreal division. He also headed the MAPAQ’s market development and export division. In this regard, Mr. Houde has contributed directly to developing, updating, and implementing business development strategies for the Québec components of Mission Québec Chine in 2005 and Mission Québec-Inde in 2006.

For over a decade, Mr. House has advised Québec companies on their efforts to develop export markets in the US and Asia, and he also worked for nearly four years at the Canadian Industrial Innovation Centre in Montreal. He developed knowledge and expertise in the area of innovation and international affairs that is sure to be of great benefit to the clients and partners of Québec Government office in Los Angeles today.

Shirley Townsend–Ontario Marketing Office

Shirley TownsendIn April 2011, Shirley Townsend started as Senior Economic Officer at the Ontario International Marketing Centre (IMC) in Los Angeles.

Shirley previously served as Ontario’s Senior Economic Officer in New Delhi from 2007 until March 2011. Her focus in India was raising Ontario’s profile in key sectors such as ICT (Information and Communications Technology), life sciences, and clean technology, in particular renewable energy. She worked on the organization of several high-profile public sector trade missions as well as numerous business delegations.

Prior to her New Delhi posting, Shirley was the International Marketing Consultant for South and Southeast Asia at the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade’s International Trade Branch. Before covering the Asian market, Shirley had extensive experience in the U.S. helping companies to export. She covered the ICT sector and travelled to California and other parts of the U.S. to promote Ontario’s expertise.

She holds a B.A. from York University in Toronto.

Hans Fraiken–Quebec Film & Television Council

Hans FraikinHans Fraikin is the Film Commissioner and CEO of the Quebec Film and Television Council. The Québec Film and Television Council (QFTC) has been commissioned to promote Québec, Canada’s largest province, that has long offered filmmakers a creative and inexpensive backdrop for their productions. Québec’s European background fill it with unique settings that can easily double for Paris, London, Moscow, Vienna and so much more. Québec also boasts Canada’s largest studio facilities, has state-of-the-art CGI facilities, an experienced crew base and unprecedented cash rebates. The QFTC’s goal is to work closely with international producers to ensure that they benefit from all that Québec has to offer.

Prior to Mr. Fraikin’s Film Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer position for the QFTC, he served as Director of the European office for Telefilm Canada as well as Distribution Executive for Twentieth Century Fox.
